PREVENTIVE & CORRECTIVE MODALITIES FOR CHILDREN

The main paediatric needs are concerned about the cleaning of child’s teeth, adverse habits like finger/thumb sucking, mouth breathing and Fluoride requirements. There are total of 20 milk teeth (deciduous teeth) in a child's mouth which start erupting between 6-7 months and 1 year of age and begin falling near 6 years of age after which the permanent teeth begin to erupt in the mouth. It is advised to have a dental check up by the child's first birthday. Children get tooth decay by frequent and long exposures to sugary liquids such as milk, juices etc. This is especially observed in children who are given bottle while they are sleeping.

We provide preventive and restorative therapies for children which include:

  • Topical Fluoride applications

  • Fillings with fluoride releasing materials and

  • Pit and Fissure Sealants.

Sealants are a safe, plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They help in blocking the narrow pits and fissures which are responsible for food lodgement and hence cavitation.

Topical Fluorides are gel like material put in trays and placed in mouth for 2-3 minutes. They react with the enamel of teeth and make it harder and resistant to acid attack and decay.

For children having grossly decayed teeth or in severe pain, procedures such as Pulpotomy or Pulpectomy are done here at the centre. It is a very comfortable procedure which is done under a very light dose of Local Anaesthesia.
